How to save anything from the iPhone Share Sheet
Updated 13 October 2026. 2 minute read.
Almost every app on iPhone has a Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up. Tapping it opens the Share Sheet. Most people use it to send things to other people. It is just as good at sending things to yourself.
What is in the Share Sheet
From top to bottom:
- Suggested people, for sending by Messages or AirDrop.
- A row of apps that can receive what you are sharing.
- A list of actions, such as Copy, Add to Reading List or Save to Files.
What appears depends on what you are sharing. A web page offers different options from a photo or a PDF.
Put the app you save to at the front
If the app you want is buried at the end of the row, saving feels like work and you stop doing it. Move it forward once:
- Open the Share Sheet from any app.
- Scroll the row of apps all the way to the end and tap More.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap the green plus next to the app to add it to Favorites, then drag it to the top.
- Tap Done.
From now on it is the first icon in the row.
Saving to Stashy from other apps
Stashy accepts most things the Share Sheet can hand over:
- Safari and other browsers: the page becomes a link with its title and picture.
- Photos: one picture or several at a time.
- Files and Mail: PDFs and other documents.
- Any app with selectable text: select the text, tap Share, and it is saved as a note.
You do not have to open Stashy afterwards. The save is waiting in your library the next time you do, and each one gets a summary, a category and search keywords on your device.
When Share is not there
A few apps hide or remove the Share button. Two workarounds cover most cases:
- Copy, then paste. Copy the link or text, open Stashy, tap the plus button and choose Paste.
- Take a screenshot and save that. It is less tidy, but the text in it can still be recognised. See how to organize screenshots.
On iPad and Mac
On iPad the Share Sheet works the same way, and you can also drag things straight onto Stashy's window. On Mac, drag and drop works too, and there are keyboard shortcuts for a new link, a new note and saving the clipboard.
