Which devices can run on-device summaries?
Updated 13 October 2026. 2 minute read.
Stashy has two sets of requirements. The app itself needs a recent system. The features that read and summarize your saves need a device whose chip can run Apple's on-device language model. It is worth knowing which is which before you install.
To run Stashy at all
- iPhone with iOS 26 or later
- iPad with iPadOS 26 or later
- Mac with macOS 26 or later
To get summaries, categories and answers
These features use Apple Intelligence, which runs on:
- iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and every iPhone 16 or later
- iPad: models with an M1 chip or later, and iPad mini with A17 Pro
- Mac: models with an M1 chip or later
Apple Intelligence also has to be switched on in the system's settings, and the device needs to have finished downloading its models. That happens in the background after you turn it on and can take a while on a new device.
What depends on it
On a supported device, Stashy can:
- write a short summary of each save,
- file it into one of your categories,
- give it hidden keywords, including synonyms and translations,
- suggest a calendar event when a save mentions a date,
- answer questions from your library.
All of this runs on the device. See what on-device AI means.
What works without it
Everything else. On a device that runs iOS 26 but does not support Apple Intelligence, you can still:
- save links, photos, files, notes, voice memos and scans,
- organise them in categories by hand,
- search by title and by the text of your notes,
- set reminders,
- sync through iCloud and export your library.
Stashy tells you in Settings when Apple Intelligence is unavailable on the device, so you know why a summary is missing.
A mixed set of devices
Many people have a newer phone and an older iPad, or the other way round. Your library syncs between them through iCloud, including the summaries and categories written on the capable device. So an item saved and summarized on your iPhone shows its summary on the iPad as well.
If summaries are not appearing
Work through these in order:
- Is the device on the list above?
- Is Apple Intelligence turned on in the system's settings?
- Has it finished setting up? Right after switching it on, models may still be downloading.
- Are summaries switched on in Stashy? Settings has separate switches for summarising new items, sorting them into categories and suggesting events.
- Could the page be read? Pages behind a login or made mostly of images give the model nothing to work with.
Why it is built this way
Running the model on your device is what lets Stashy offer these features with no account, no usage limit and nothing uploaded. The cost of that choice is the hardware requirement. For an app that reads everything you save, it seemed the right trade.
